The Cricut Mug Press applies Cricut Infusible Ink designs to compatible mugs and tumblers using heat and pressure, creating permanent, dishwasher-safe results that won’t crack, peel, or fade over time. The sublimation process bonds the ink directly into the surface of the mug, producing vibrant, full-color designs that last as long as the mug itself.

Before You Begin: Infusible Ink Only

The Cricut Mug Press works exclusively with Cricut Infusible Ink transfer sheets or Infusible Ink Pens and Markers. It does not work with regular heat transfer vinyl (HTV), iron-on vinyl, or standard sublimation transfers from third-party suppliers. Using incompatible materials will not produce a transfer and may damage the machine.

Compatible Mugs and Blanks

For best results, use Cricut-brand sublimation blanks. Third-party mugs may have coatings that are not optimized for Cricut Infusible Ink and can result in faded, uneven, or failed transfers.

Setup and First Use

Unbox the Mug Press

Remove the Mug Press and power cord from the packaging. Some kits include a 12 oz sample mug. Set the Mug Press on a stable, heat-resistant surface near an outlet — leave a few inches of clearance around all sides for ventilation.

Plug In and Power On

Connect the power cord to the Mug Press and plug into a wall outlet. Press the power button. The press will begin heating up automatically.

Wait for the Ready Indicator

Allow the Mug Press to reach full operating temperature. When it’s ready, the green indicator light will illuminate steadily. Do not insert a mug before the green light appears.

Create Your Design in Design Space

Open Cricut Design Space and create or choose an Infusible Ink-compatible design. Size your design to fit your mug’s printable area:
  • 12 oz mug: approximately 8.5” × 3.6”
  • 15 oz mug: approximately 9.25” × 3.8”
Infusible Ink colors appear significantly lighter and more muted on the transfer sheet than they will on the finished mug. The heat-activation process makes colors vivid and saturated — don’t adjust your design colors based on how the unactivated sheet looks.

Cut the Infusible Ink Transfer Sheet

Load your Infusible Ink transfer sheet onto a Cricut StandardGrip mat, liner side down. Load the mat into your Cricut machine and select Infusible Ink Transfer Sheet as your material in Design Space. Press the C button to cut.

Weed the Transfer

Remove the excess transfer material around your design, leaving only the design itself on the backing liner.

Prepare and Wrap the Mug

Wipe your mug thoroughly with rubbing alcohol and a lint-free cloth to remove any oils, fingerprints, or residue from the surface.
Oil residue from handling can create spots where the ink fails to transfer properly. Always handle the mug by the handle after cleaning, and avoid touching the surface you’re pressing.
Wrap your Infusible Ink design around the mug with the ink side facing out (toward the mug surface). Center it on the mug and secure the edges firmly with heat-resistant tape.

Slide the Mug Into the Press

Open the Mug Press lid and slide the wrapped mug into the heating chamber, handle facing outward. Close the lid until it clicks shut.

Press Start

Press the Start button. The Mug Press will run the full pressing cycle automatically — applying the correct heat and pressure for the preset duration. The press will beep when the cycle is complete.

Remove the Mug Safely

The mug and transfer sheet will be extremely hot immediately after pressing.
Always use heat-resistant gloves when removing the mug from the Mug Press. Do not handle the mug or transfer sheet with bare hands — burns can occur instantly.
Use heat-resistant gloves to lift the mug out of the chamber by the handle.

Peel the Transfer While Warm

While the mug is still warm (not fully cooled), carefully peel away the Infusible Ink transfer sheet and heat-resistant tape. Remove the tape slowly to avoid pulling up any of the transferred design. Your finished mug is ready to use once it cools completely.
